Year 7 to high school: difficult but necessary
Dan McMahon, the principal of high school Shalom College, insists that moving Year 7 into high school is vital for the improvement of our education system.
While he is aware that the move won’t be easy on Queensland schools, he believes that the long-term benefits are necessary for keeping Queensland in line with the other states.
The decision made by the government last year will be implemented in all Queensland schools by 2015.
McMahon insists that the decision, as well as the introduction of prep year into the schooling system in 2007, will also make it easier on students transferring inter-state.
You can find out more about the move from the Queensland Department of Education website.
