The Music of Mumbai
By Sarah Matthews
On the local trains of Mumbai, a group of twenty, thirty or even more men gather together to sing and play music on their way to and from work. The songs are not rehearsed, the performances are not planned. It is simply a ritual that is unique to this community of the hindu, marathi, working class.
