One Earth One Home
In recent years, the word “sustainability” has been used to describe a process or a state of affairs that can be sustained throughout time. Ecological, economic, and social sustainability are all aspects of sustainability in human society. In order to meet economic development goals and safeguard natural resources and the environment, such as the atmosphere, freshwater, oceans, land, and forests, sustainable development needs humans to live in harmony with the environment. Waste separation is turning into a big problem as the economy grows and people’s lives get better. What sustainable methods are there for garbage separation? I have a quick story for you:
Waste is getting worse and worse while resources are still being misused. The clean water in the rivers and the air are progressively turning murky, the health of the individual animals living close to the garbage dumps is deteriorating, and the number of animals being harmed by the garbage is steadily increasing, according to watchful mice.
The mouse reflected: “What should I do given how serious this is? Should I ask the lion, the forest’s ruler, to call everyone together to come up with a solution? But now that I’ve consumed his cheesecake, he appears to be very enraged; his long, thick, black sideburns are frightening; his eyes are enormous and round; he appears to be staring at his victim; I’m terrified; what should I do?” At night the little mouse went to sleep in deep thought.
The nearby groundhog rubbed his eyes and said, “Good morning, Mousey. Have you ever observed that you could detect a slight odor whenever you recently dug a hole?
“Do you detect this kind of odor?” The groundhog scanned the area where the small mouse was pointing, noting the scattered piles of trash on the grass in the distance, including plastic bags, cans, waste paper, leftover peels, and batteries.
“Hey, when did those people over there get so many things?” The groundhog pondered as he made his way to the grass.
“I feel like I’m going to pass out because it stinks so horrible and is so nasty.” The groundhog eagerly ran back to the younger mouse brother. The small mouse informed the groundhog that he wanted it to work with the current situation to find a solution.
“With our combined skills, the two of us are unable to resolve this issue. We ought to talk with the lion, who rules the forest.” Groundhog remarked while scowling.
“You just stole a slice of cheesecake, mouse, why are you being such a coward? The lion, who rules the forest, won’t give a damn about this insignificant matter with you. We only have one home, and if we keep growing this way, there won’t be anything we can survive about it. .” Finally, Little Mouse decided to muster the fortitude to make amends and work with the Lion King to resolve the issue with the support and company of the groundhog.
They traveled to the lion’s domain, pleaded with the lion king, offered their apologies, and described the current state of the realm.
Good kid, you are a bold and cautious little mouse who is willing to acknowledge faults and who can carefully identify current environmental issues, the lion added.
The Lion King also understood how severe the kingdom’s environmental issues are “If this continues, many animals in the animal kingdom will become ill, the rivers will turn turbid, there would be waste everywhere, and it will smell bad. We can’t allow this to worsen because we only have one home.”
The three started to think…
The mouse enthusiastically exclaimed, “We can create trash cans and allow little creatures to deposit waste into them.”
The lion pondered, “But what to do with the garbage can full of trash? I’m here to call a meeting to examine potential solutions to the issue .”
The lion then gathered all the little creatures and they had a discussion about it.
“The trash can be buried in the ground,” Badger suggested.
“We can heat-sterilize the garbage.” The Insect Cannon suggested.
“We can recycle the trash.” The tiny squirrel suggested.
Fox said thoughtfully, “I agree with the squirrel that we can sort the waste, and then utilize different procedures for different wastes.”
“I see this happening in human time.” The dog joyfully echoed, “They have constructed four trash cans: one for kitchen waste, one for hazardous waste, one for recyclable waste, and one for other waste.”
“Yes, I also spotted four trash cans. The one with the apple heart motif can hold some kitchen waste, which is waste from cooking that can degrade when buried in the soil by natural microbes and plants. Recycle and absorb garbage. This style of the trash can, which has a fork at the bottom and a small flag-like pattern on it, is suitable for hazardous waste such as electronics, lamps, paint, and medications. They can be burned at high temperatures, crushed and dumped, or sent right to incinerator facilities for burning. Paper towels and toilet paper cannot be utilized due to their high water solubility, however, this triangular-shaped trash can be used for recyclable waste, such as newspapers, magazines, books, different wrapping papers, office paper, cartons, etc. Recycling; plastics primarily consist of different plastic bags, packaging, disposable plastic lunch boxes and tableware, toothbrushes, cups, mineral water bottles, etc.; glass primarily consists of different glass bottles, broken glass pieces, mirrors, light bulbs, etc.; metals primarily consist of cans, metal cans, etc.; fabrics primarily consist of worn-out clothing, towels, school bags, cloth shoes, etc. They are sterile and reusable. Other rubbish can be disposed of in a triangular trash can that resembles two hands and is designed to hold the three types of garbage mentioned above. Can be landfilled, burned, composted, etc.,” the little mouse exclaimed with enthusiasm.
The Lion King gave a satisfied nod and then promptly told the small animals to build new houses out of trash. At the same time, he ordered everyone to keep an eye on one another, toss their trash into the appropriate buckets, and send help on a regular basis to clean up after it.
The air in the forest has improved, and the water has become clearer thanks to everyone’s combined efforts. Thanks to the cautious and brave tiny mice for their assistance in this environmental conservation effort.
This tale similarly depicts the state of affairs today. As a result, environmental conservation and sustainable development are critical issues for us today and have gained significant importance. Environmental protection has evolved into the cornerstone of a sustainable development plan in our nation. A development strategy that not only serves the requirements of the present but also doesn’t endanger those of future generations is known as sustainable development. In other words, people, environment, and resources must all be taken into account when developing an economy. In addition to carefully planning the current development, it is also important to think about and improve the conditions for future development for the benefit of future generations. We cannot go down the path of wasting resources, contaminating them first, and then treating them. In order to increase environmental protection, which is not only a crucial economic issue but also a crucial political issue related to people’s health, and social stability, it is imperative to implement sustainable development strategies. We have a duty to defend the globe because if it is destroyed, humans cannot be spared, according to a British author named Barbara, who wrote the book There is only one earth for humans.
We all understand the importance of sustainability, but we still don’t know how to put that understanding into practice. An otherwise chaotic living environment can be improved by a relatively simple act, as seen in the instances mentioned above. Three sustainable acts you might not have realized you could take:
Green Travel
In addition to harming human health, urban air pollution also contributes to global warming. Cars release carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and fine particulate matter. As a result, we promote environmentally friendly travel and urge everyone to begin by reducing their own carbon footprint and environmental pollution.
Utilizing a means of transportation that has fewer negative effects on the environment and reducing one’s own energy use and pollution are both examples of green travel. For instance, we can use public transit, such as the subway, bus, etc., to travel further, and we can use walking or cycling to travel closer.
Use reusable bags when you go shopping.
We are all aware that although plastic bags have made life much more convenient, they have also increased pollution. Manufacturer of environmental protection bags Huanya Packaging in Chengdu claims that polyethylene, the primary component of plastic bags, has a chemical molecular structure that is relatively stable and extremely challenging to disintegrate. Although it takes a while to entirely decay, this does not imply that it cannot. Low recycling value means that most of them end out in the environment during recycling, which causes a significant environmental impact.
Although it may seem like only $0.20 for a plastic bag, if you visit 50 stores, you’ll spend a total of $10 on plastic bags and produce additional garbage, which is the equivalent of 50 extra plastic bags. As a result, we can bring our own reusable bags with us when shopping for the benefit of the environment. The pressure of waste conversion has decreased thanks to the frequent use of eco-friendly shopping bags.
Bring a water bottle with you
In Australia, 373 million plastic water bottles are discarded annually. PET plastic bottles are only 36% recycled. Plastic bottle recycling rates are extremely low. The environment is harmed by plastic. Wastelands receive water bottle disposal. They release dangerous substances into the air. Health issues brought on by toxic include cancer, issues with brain development, infertility, and other issues. Serious consequences can result from temporary convenience.
Therefore, bringing your own cups can lessen the waste of plastic water bottles, safeguard the environment, and lessen the likelihood that this issue will affect all living creatures. Many lives could be saved.
